Στόχος Σεμιναρίου: Υποστήριξη των διαδικασιών που προνοούνται από τη σχετική νομοθεσία για τη συνεχή βελτίωση και αναβάθμιση των ιδρυμάτων ανώτερης εκπαίδευσης και των προγραμμάτων σπουδών τους.

Ομιλητές/λήτριες: Καθηγήτριες – Ειδικοί στη φοιτητό-κεντρική διδασκαλία και μάθηση Sabine Hoidn (University of St. Gallen and University of Zurich) και  Manja Klemenčič (Harvard University), καθώς και συνεργάτες τους,  οι οποίοι θα συνδεθούν με το σεμινάριο διαδικτυακά.

Sabine Hoidn,

University of St. Gallen,

PD Dr Sabine Hoidn is the Head of the Student-Centered Learning Lab and Senior Lecturer in Management and Higher Education at the University of St. Gallen. Her current research focuses on student-centred teaching, learning and curriculum development, learning capacity, management learning and teaching, and organizational learning. She consults and participates in international research projects, teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in management and education, and conducts professional development lectures and workshops for faculty worldwide. Sabine Hoidn regularly presents at scientific conferences and publishes in peer-reviewed international journals, with her latest co-edited book on “The Future of Management Education” being published in April 2022. She acts as a scientific adviser and expert panel member for European bodies in the area of (higher) education and serves on the editorial board of journals such as JME, MTR, JHRE and EJHE. She has recently been elected to serve on the Academy of Management (AOM) Board of Governors (2022-2025). Sabine Hoidn received a PhD in business education from the University of St. Gallen, and the venia legendi in educational science, especially higher education (PD) from the University of Zurich.

Manja Klemenčič, 

Harvard University, US
Dr Manja Klemenčič (https://scholar.harvard.edu/manja_klemencic) is Associate Senior Lecturer in Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University. She is an award-winning teacher. In 2021, she was the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Alpha-Iota Prize for Excellence in Teaching at Harvard College, and in 2020, John R. Marquand Award for Excellence in Advising and Support to Students. She won Harvard’s awards for teaching excellence for every installation of her three staple courses. Four times, she was voted by the Harvard Yearbook Publications one of the favorite professors by the graduating class (’19, ’20, ’21, ‘22).  Klemenčič has over 120 publications and over 80 keynotes and invited lectures on a broad array of higher education topics, including SCLT, quality assurance, civic role of higher education, and internationalization. With Sabine Hoidn, she edited the Routledge Handbook on Student-Centered Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (2020). She has been an invited keynote speaker at major academic conferences. Since 2014, Klemenčič serves as Editor-in-Chief of European Journal of Higher Education, since 2015, Co-editor of the book series Understanding Student Experiences in Higher Education (Bloomsbury) and from 2022, Co-editor of book series Higher Education Dynamics (Springer). She regularly acts as a consultant for international organizations and governments on higher education policies and instruments.   Manja

Laura Winer is the Director of Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) and Associate Professor (Professional) in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at McGill University. TLS oversees many University-wide initiatives, including the design and redesign of classrooms and teaching labs, faculty development programs, student professional skills development, the use of technology in teaching and learning, and policy development. Her work on teaching and learning spaces includes a contribution to the 2021 Routledge International Handbook of Student-Centered Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, edited by Hoidn and Klemenčič. She has published and presented nationally and internationally on educational development areas including the use of information technologies, teaching and learning spaces, evaluation of teaching, and medical education. laura.jpg
Adam Finkelstein, 

McGill University,

Adam Finkelstein is currently Associate Director, Learning Environments (Physical and Digital) at Teaching and Learning Services at McGill University where he develops university-wide initiatives to improve teaching and learning environments. His responsibilities include both the physical (learning spaces) as well as the digital (online ecosystem of teaching and learning tools). He and his team have worked with thousands of instructors to help them improve their teaching and learning with many faculty development initiatives, from active learning, to assessment, to inclusive space design. He is currently the Chair of two groups responsible for the selection, design and renovation of all classrooms and teaching labs at McGill, including numerous new Active Learning Classrooms and Labs. He is currently Co-Lead of the Learning Spaces Design Community Group for EDUCAUSE and is a member of core team and author of the Learning Spaces Rating System (LSRS). Adam has over 20 years of experience with innovative physical and digital learning spaces including designing, teaching, and assessing them. He has given numerous international keynotes, presentations, and workshops in many different areas such as learning science, learning technologies and learning spaces.  adamfinkelstein
Gohar Hovhannisyan,
 
European Students’ Union (ESU)
 Gohar Hovhannisyan has served as Project & Policy Officer in the EUA Higher Education Policy Unit since early 2021.

Prior to this, she was the President of the European Students' Union where she closely followed the developments in European higher education policymaking. Gohar has also served as a student expert for multiple Quality Assurance accreditations and reviews in different European countries. As a student representative, she spent almost seven years advocating for quality education at the institutional, national and European levels.

Gohar holds a Master’s in Economics with an emphasis in insurance markets from the Armenian State University of Economics.

Aleksandar Šušnjar, 

European Students’ Union (ESU)
Aleksandar Šušnjar is an expert associate at the Centre for Quality Assurance and Enhancement at the University of Rijeka, where he also received his masters’ degree in Philosophy and English language and literature. He is currently an Institutional Coordinator of the University of Rijeka for involvement in one of the European Universities initiatives – Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE). During his studies, Aleksandar was active in numerous student organizations and representation bodies at different levels, including serving as a president of the Croatian Students’ Council, an Executive Committee member of the European Students’ Union (ESU) and a Steering Committee member of the Quality Assurance Student Experts Pool. Aleksandar is also a certified expert in external evaluation of quality assurance systems of the Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education and has participated as a reviewer in over 20 institutional and QA agency reviews (national and international), as well as thematic international evaluations on the topic of student-centred learning. Aaron Kessler

Dr. Aaron Kessler is Assistant Director, Learning Sciences and Teaching for Open Learning at MIT. In his role within the residential education team he is responsible for working with faculty and course teams in the development and research of online and residential courses that use educational technologies. As part of that process, he utilizes research from the learning sciences, educational psychology, and discipline-based educational research to help inform design decisions that are situated within complex learning settings. He currently serves on the IEEE Industry Consortium on Learning Engineering (ICICLE) Steering Committee and chairs the ICICLE Design for Learning SIG. Central to all this work is the goal of supporting the development of instructional opportunities that provide learners the chance to engage in building deep conceptual understanding of content.  AaronKessler
Sean P. Robinson,

Dr. Sean P. Robinson is a Lecturer in the Department of Physics and Associate Director of the Helena Foundation Junior Lab at MIT. He performs research across several fields, including theoretical particle physics, computational biology, and physics education research in advanced laboratories. Julie Schell, 

University of Texas at Austin, US
Dr. Julie Schell is the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Technology at The University of Texas at Austin. She is also the Executive Director for Instructional Continuity, Innovation, and Accreditation in the College of Fine Arts. Julie is an award-winning scholar of teaching and learning with over 25 years of experience in higher education. Her research focuses on accentuating the intersections that exist within design, learning, and pedagogy.  Appointed as an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Design and the Program in Higher Education Leadership within the College of Education, Julie teaches courses in design thinking, design pedagogy, design research, supervised teaching in design, and technology and innovation in higher education. Julie completed her doctorate in higher and postsecondary education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and a four-year post-doctoral fellowship focused on the science of teaching and learning in the Mazur Group at Harvard University, where she is still appointed as a researcher. 
Julie has held positions at the nation's top research universities, including Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and Harvard. A prominent, sought-after speaker and consultant on teaching and learning, Dr. Schell has worked on pedagogical initiatives with thousands of national and international audiences. She has led design and learning projects on-site in Aruba, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Dominican Republic, Germany, and throughout the United States. Dr. Schell has also designed and implemented online learning projects and workshops for universities in Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and South Africa.

Rachel Martin, 

University of Texas at Austin, US

Rachel Martin is a PhD candidate in Education at Washington University in St. Louis. She has a master’s degree in Human Development, Culture, and Learning Sciences from the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Goucher College. Her research focuses on the psychology of learning and motivation, the high school to college transition, and the role of faculty-student relationships in higher education. In the past, she has worked as a college admissions counselor, a career coach for undergraduates, and as a dual enrollment program coordinator. In addition to her doctoral research, she works with a local research-practice partnership in St. Louis aiming to improve mathematics instruction in local K-12 school districts. MartinHeadshot
