Meeting of the European Directors General for Higher Education, 19-21 May 2026

The Meeting of Directors General for Higher Education, held in Nicosia from 19–21 May 2026, as part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, brought together higher education leaders and policymakers from across Europe to discuss key issues shaping the future of higher education.

During the meeting, Professor Andreas Charalambous, President of the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA), delivered a keynote speech titled ‘Medical Education in Addressing Health Inequalities in Europe’. His presentation explored the role of medical education in addressing health inequalities and workforce needs across Europe and highlighted the importance of preparing future healthcare professionals to respond effectively to evolving technological, societal and healthcare challenges.
