The President of the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA), Professor Andreas Charalambous, visited Athens, where he met with the President of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), Professor Periklis Mitkas.

The meeting marked an important step towards further strengthening communication, coordination and cooperation between the two bodies, as well as the exchange of views on key issues relating to quality assurance and accreditation in higher education.

In particular, the meeting addressed the issue of the dual accreditation of study programmes within the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), as well as the adoption of the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes, with a view to strengthening European cooperation and facilitating the development of joint study programmes between higher education institutions.

Discussions also covered matters relating to the effective operation of branches of Cypriot universities offering study programmes in Greece, as well as the operation of a branch of a Greek university in Cyprus. These issues were considered in the context of cooperation and coordination between the two bodies, as well as their joint participation in and cooperation within the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).

The meeting highlighted the importance of continuous communication, coordination and the exchange of expertise between the two bodies, with a shared focus on further strengthening the quality, credibility and European dimension of higher education.

With a view to continuing the dialogue, the President of CYQAA, Professor Andreas Charalambous, invited Professor Periklis Mitkas to visit CYQAA in Nicosia.
